Overview

The Notification Center is an in-product inbox in Happy Property that keeps you informed about activity on your work orders and alerts you to system issues that need attention. You choose which events you're notified about, so you only see what's relevant to your role. It's available to all Happy Property users and works on both desktop and mobile.

To enable your Desktop Notification Center

Coming July 15, 2026 go to Admin Center > Release Updates and enable Happy Property Notification Center and the Notification Center will be availalbe for your users

Right now notifications are in-app and for Work Orders only, notifications for Inspections, Projects, and much more will be added soon!

Getting Started

Where to find it: Open the Notification Center from anywhere in Happy Property, it's located in the top navigation bar. An unread badge shows how many notifications need your attention.

Choosing Your Notifications

How to enable notifications

All notification types are off by default. To turn them on:

  • Go to your notification preferences (from your profile / settings)
  • Select the event types you want receive notifications for.
  • Changes take effect immediately — no need to reload — and apply to every property you have access to.

You can independently enable or disable notifications for each work order event:

  • Work order created
  • Urgent work order created
  • Urgent work order status change
  • Assignee change
  • Status change
  • Work order cancelled
  • Resident comment
  • Technician comment

Each notification includes the event type, property name, work order reference, a timestamp, and a direct link to the work order.

How Stale Work Order Alerts Work

Stale alerts tell you when a work order hasn't had a status change for a period you choose. The default threshold is 7 days, and you can adjust it in 12-hour (0.5-day) increments.

An alert fires once when a work order first crosses your threshold. If it's still stale after a second threshold period (for example, 14 days when your threshold is 7), you'll get one escalation alert with stronger wording.

After that, no further alerts fire for that work order unless its status changes and it stalls again. Your threshold is saved to your account and persists across sessions.

Managing Your Inbox

  • Mark as read / unread: Mark any notification as read or unread to manage what still needs your attention.
  • Clicking a notification: Opens the related work order and marks the notification as read (the blue dot is removed). The notification stays in your list.
  • Dismiss: Removes a notification from your inbox. Dismissing is permanent — there is no undo or archive.
  • Bulk actions: From the three-dot overflow menu in the header, choose "Mark all as read" or "Dismiss all." Both run immediately, with no confirmation prompt.
  • Unread badge: The Notification Center entry point shows a count of your unread notifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I not receiving any notifications?

All notification types are off by default. Open notification preferences and switch on the events you want. Also check that you have access to the property where the event occurred.

Do my preferences apply to all my properties?

Yes. Preferences apply automatically to every property you have access to. Per-property settings aren't available yet.

Can I recover a dismissed notification?

No. Dismissing is permanent. If you only want to clear the unread badge, use "mark as read" instead.

What's the difference between clicking and dismissing?

Clicking opens the work order and marks the notification read, but leaves it in your inbox. Dismissing removes it permanently.

Does the Notification Center work on mobile?

Yes, notifications are available within HPMA
